Kindly sponsored by David Burton. We are very pleased that this event will be going ahead. The format will be different to previous years because of the Covid - 19 restrictions and we can only accommodate a maximum of 7 teams as opposed to the usual 12 or 14. We are sure that the sport and the atmosphere will be as good as ever. We are very grateful to our generous Sponsor David Burton and to those who have donated Raffle Prizes. We are most grateful to the Royal Ashdown Golf Club who have helpfully communicated their health and safety measures and given us full confidence that the event can proceed safely.
The Friends were delighted that so many supporters accompanied us on a wonderful walk in the Groombridge, Kent countryside. We were very fortunate with the sunny weather which created wonderful views far and wide. Click 'Find out more' to view some photos from the walk!
A new Art talk to follow on from a very successful evening of Picasso and his Women led by Liz Strang. This is a taste of what is to come:
CEZANNE: PROVINCIAL FROM PROVENCE TO FATHER OF MODERN ART.
A Provencal from birth whose love of his native land was a constant, Cezanne painted determinedly and single-mindedly following his own path. He never gained entry to l’Ecole des Beaux Arts nor had a work accepted by the Salon. Difficult, touchy and anti-social, but capable of strong friendships (Zola and Pissarro), success eluded him until his old age. Then, confronted by his strong colours, single brushstrokes and original viewpoint, Picasso, Braque, and others were inspired to call him the “Father of Modern Art.”
Some may remember a very successful event we ran in October 2017 that involved Nicola Mills singing Opera for a group of about 60 diners. Everyone who attended marvelled at Nicola’s voice and her charisma. She has now devised a new show which focuses on Julie Andrews’ singing and acting career. She will be performing at the Angel Centre in Tonbridge and has kindly offered to share some of the profits of the evening with the Friends.
Cancelled. We warmly thank all of our player supporters and look forward to providing you with a wonderful lunch in 2021 after another season of Bridge playing
Annual Bridge Lunch organised and run by Liz Strang in aid of the Friends will take place this year on the 19th April at the Bridge Club.
