A new Art talk to follow on from a very successful evening of Picasso and his Women led by Liz Strang. We are confirming dates and will update the website as soon as these are clear. In the meantime, this is a taste of what is to come:
CEZANNE: PROVINCIAL FROM PROVENCE TO FATHER OF MODERN ART.
A Provencal from birth whose love of his native land was a constant, Cezanne painted determinedly and single-mindedly following his own path. He never gained entry to l’Ecole des Beaux Arts nor had a work accepted by the Salon. Difficult, touchy and anti-social, but capable of strong friendships (Zola and Pissarro), success eluded him until his old age. Then, confronted by his strong colours, single brushstrokes and original viewpoint, Picasso, Braque, and others were inspired to call him the “Father of Modern Art.”
